Special Needs
We want everyone to feel at home when attending Divine Services. If you need special accommodations for seating in the church (wheelchair accessible, memorials, specific location/pew), please contact the Church Office three (3) days in advance of the service you are planning to attend. When you arrive at the church, notify one of our welcome team greeters of your special arrangements and they will assist you.

Children in Church
IIn the Orthodox tradition, our children become full members of the Church when they are baptized, usually as infants. We welcome and encourage you to bring your children or grandchildren to church.  As Christ said, "let the little children come to me.” (Matthew 19:14)

Parents and grandparents of young children, relax and feel free to try different strategies. You might try sitting near the front of the church, where it is easier for your little ones to see and hear the Divine Liturgy. Children learn from the behavior you model; sing the responses and hymns together. Quietly explain the parts of the Liturgy and actions of the priests, acolytes and chanters (psalters). If a child is excessively noisy, you can take him/her to the Young Family Room or try a brief walk outside. Please remember to always accompany young children to the restroom. You can take your child out when you need to, but please comeback!

Guests without children, please understand that including our kids in the services helps them build an active and healthy relationship with God and His Church. Sounds and movement from children are reminders that we have a young, vibrant parish where our children feel at home. At the same time, we want to ensure that you have a prayerful service free from distraction. If a young child or children is making it challenging to participate in the service, please ask an usher about finding another seat and we’ll be glad to help.

Ministries for You

Everyone has gifts to offer and serving side-by-side is a rewarding way to develop friendships.

Adult Education opportunities include evening Bible Study, Studying of the Divine Liturgy, Catechism Classes, and our annual Lenten retreat. Visit our Videos page to view past classes.

Family Ministries include family potluck meals, service projects, seminars, and our annual Labor Day weekend All-Parish Retreat at St. Nicholas Ranch and Retreat Center in Dunlap, California.

Liturgical Ministries include serving in the altar, singing in the choir, chanting, baking prosforo (offering) bread for the Eucharist, and making kolyva (memorial wheat) for memorials, offering oil for the vigil lamps and providing flowers for the church.

Men’s and Women’s Ministry groups meet regularly for fellowship, community service, and recreation.

Outreach, Evangelism, and Welcome Ministries prayerfully pursue projects that help us to share the Gospel with seekers and welcome newcomers into the parish while creating a welcoming and orderly environment for everyone during Divine Liturgy.

The Ladies Philoptochos Society, or "Friends of the Poor,” organizes philanthropic activities, fellowship, and fundraising activities for worthy causes. Membership is open to both women and men, and meetings are held monthly.

Our parish operates the “Feeding the 5,000” Food Pantry in partnership with the Alameda County Community Food Bank, with food distribution on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month.

Our parish also organizes a home-building trip to Rosarito, Mexico in partnership with Project Mexico & St. Innocent Orphanage each summer, giving the gift of our labor to families in need of a home.

St. Paraskevi’s Seniors meet monthly for fellowship, service, and outings. They prepare memorial meals for funerals and our annual Palm Sunday luncheon.

Youth Ministries include Sunday School and youth groups for preschool, elementary school, middle school, high school, and young adults. Our parish also has Greek Folk Dance, Youth Choir, Volleyball and Basketball teams. An important spring event is the annual St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival for 6th-12th graders. In the summer, many of our young parishioners participate in the Metropolis of San Francisco summer camp.

Our Parish Council has 12 members, elected to make financial and administrative decisions for the good of the parish. The Parish Council meets regularly to ensure the smooth functioning of the parish.
